PRESS RELEASE: $152,415 in Federal Funds Awarded to Local Nonprofits for Increased Security Measures

Awards allocated through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to support security for nonprofits that are at high risk of a terror attack or hate crime.

(BOSTON—08/05/2024) The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS’s) Office of Grants and Research (OGR) is awarding $4.75 million in federal funds to nonprofit organizations (NPOs) throughout the Commonwealth, $152,415 in First Middlesex State Senate District, to enhance building security. As a result, EOPSS is confident that the safety of members, visitors, and staff, especially those who have experienced acts of hate or are at risk of terrorism, will be enhanced. The funding is allocated to Massachusetts through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), a federal stimulus bill signed into law in 2021.

Four organizations in the First Middlesex State Senate District have been awarded ARPA funds: the Lowell Community Health Center was awarded $64,820, the Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Dracut was awarded $30,000, the Love All Serve All (LASA) Foundation in Lowell was awarded $44,945.93, and The Center for Hope and Healing in Lowell was awarded $12,650.

“These funds will go a long way in ensuring important community nonprofit organizations have the necessary security to do their jobs and help our communities,” said State Senator Ed Kennedy
