April/May Events

The 3rd Annual Points of Light Lantern Festival happens Saturday May 4.
  • Saturday April 20 – Khmer New Year Celebration; 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Lowell Senior Center (276 Broadway St.) followed by a parade to Clemente Park (803 Middlesex St.) where from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. there will be Khmer food, tradition dance, music, and games. In the event of rain the morning event will go on at the Senior Center, and the outdoor activities will be postponed until Sunday April 21.
  • Saturday April 20 – Earth Day Celebration; 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Sherburne Nature Center (46 Coburn Rd.) in Tyngsboro. The free event will include nature exhibits, nature walks, an an open house. In the event of rain the outdoor activities will move inside.
  • Sunday April 21 – Salsa Social; 6:15 p.m. – 9 p.m. Salsa in Lowell hosts a FREE event where you can listen to salsa music and shake your hips. 10 Kirk St., Lowell.
  • Monday April 22 – Pepperell Election Day; 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voting occurs at the Varnum Brook Elementary School Gym. The sample ballot can be found here: https://www.town.pepperell.ma.us/DocumentCenter/View/4472/Specimen-Ballot?bidId=
  • Tuesday April 23 – Lowell Cultural Council Community Input Meeting; 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Mayor’s reception Room on the second floor of City Hall (375 Merrimack St.). The LCC wants to hear from YOU what kinds of events and projects you’d like to see funded in the coming year.
  • Wednesday April 24 – Education Funding Forum; 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Groton Town Hall (173 Main St. Groton). Sen. Kennedy is hosting this presentation by Sen. Jason Lewis, Senate Chair of the Committee on Education. The event will give community stakeholders the opportunity to learn about the mechanisms of education funding at the state level, the effort that has been undertaken by the legislature to review the current education funding formula, and the proposals being considered to overhaul the formula this session. All are invited to attend.
  • Friday April 26/Saturday April 27 – Huge Barn Sale to benefit the Pan-Mass Challenge; 39 Main St., Westford. The early-bird event will be held Friday April 26 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. $15 admission for wine, beer, appetizers and first pick of the goods. The main event is Saturday April 27 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Good available include furniture, wing back chairs, jewelry, sporting goods, bikes, used & antique books, toys, vintage clothing & hats, costumes, household goods, tools, table saws, collectible dolls & more.
  • Friday April 26/Saturday April 27 – Middlesex Conservation District annual Spring Plant Sale; Friday from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Kimball Farm (400 Littleton Rd. Westford). Items include tree and shrub seedlings, perennials, fruits, groundcover, garden supplies, etc. Residents are asked to place an order online at http://www.middlesexconservation.org
  • Saturday April 27 – Earth Day Celebration; 10:30 a.m. J.V. Fletcher Library (50 Main St. Westford). Music, videos, environmental presentations, and the Earth Day essay contest awards.
  • Saturday April 27 – Community Swap; 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Pollard Memorial Library (401 Merrimack St. Lowell) Coalition for a Better Acre holds their semi-annual swap. Clean out your closets and donate the treasures you no longer want – clothes, kitchen goods, toys, books, basically anything that is small enough for one person to carry and is in good condition will be accepted. It is also a great opportunity to pick up some great new treasures to take home. Everything is free.
  • Saturday April 27- Unwanted Prescription Drug Disposal; 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Groton Police Station (99 Pleasant St. Groton). A great opportunity to properly dispose of unused, expired, or unwanted prescription drugs.
  • Saturday May 4 – Fourth Annual Lowell Sustainability Summit; 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at LTC (246 Market St. Lowell). The Lowell Sustainability Council hosts this event that includes networking, discussions, and a keynote speech from UMass Lowell Climate Change Initiative Director Dr. Juliette Rooney-Varga.
  • Saturday May 4 – Third Annual Points of Light Lantern Festival; 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at Ecumenical Plaza (282 Suffolk St. Lowell). Music, food, and at dark the launching of 1,000 decorated paper lanterns into the Western Canal. Come by and decorate a lantern and watch it travel the canal!
  • Sunday May 5 – Lowell Earth Day Festival and Parade; 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Parade starts at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center, 246 Market St.
  • Friday May 10/Saturday May 11 – Doors Open Lowell; Visit the architectural gems of Lowell and tour the insides of buildings you have long-admired from the outside. Friday May 10 buildings will be open from 6 p.m. -9 p.m. and on Saturday May 11 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Check their website at the end of April for the list of buildings and schedule:

  • Saturday May 11 – CBA’s Annual Acre Clean-up; 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. North Common (Fletcher St. Lowell) . Come clean up the neighborhood! Volunteers receive free T-shirts and lunch.
  • Saturday May 11 – Groton Garden Club Annual Plant sale; 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Groton Town Hall (173 Main St.). There will be a huge selection of herbs, perennials from members’ gardens, and experts to help you select the plants best for your yard. Just in time for Mother’s Day.
  • Saturday May 18 – Friends of the Tyngsboro Public Library Used Book sale; 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. 25 Bryants Lane. Books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles and gently used jewelry available at great prices. Funds raised support various library programs through the year. The Tyngsboro Garden Club will be on hand with plants for sale to beautify your garden.
